They are seeking to increase transparency in the performance of their duties and in their freedom of vote. These changes also provide for penalties in the event of non-compliance with the rules that have been laid down, which could result in the suspension or removal of a Member. There are certain principles that must be upheld in the conduct of those elected to Parliament when performing the duties for which they were elected by the people of their respective countries: these are to fulfil an ethical and moral responsibility and to scrupulously carry out the mandate granted by the electorate, which is to represent the people honourably.
