"Croatia’s accession to the European Union on 1 July 2013 will be the culmination of eight years of negotiations that deserve full recognition in view of Croatia’s transformation into a solid and mature democracy based on the integral values of the EU. This accession will act as a catalyst for the processes of reform in the Western Balkans. This event will allow Croatia and its citizens to enjoy the rights and guarantees enshrined in the EU Treaties. Along with their rights, the authorities must meet the commitments made during the negotiations and foster the participation of the representatives of civil society throughout the accession procedure. Alongside this, additional support through the Instrument of Pre-Accession Assistance should carry on and adapt to the efforts being made towards reform.
I am voting for this report and would stress that it is still necessary to continue with policies for the reform of the judicial system, so that it is impartial and transparent, for the fight against corruption and cross-border organised crime, and cooperation with the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, especially through the prosecution of war crimes and the integration of refugees and displaced persons."@en1
