"I did not vote in favour of this report because, although my group has always been in favour of Croatia joining the EU, just as it is of any other country that meets the established requirements, I cannot support the EU’s demand for Croatia to implement reforms that go against the interests of the Croatian people. Throughout the accession process, the EU’s main objective has been to foster a competitive neoliberal economy in Croatia and bring about privatisation in certain key sectors. The focus was on improving conditions to make Croatia more attractive to foreign investors. Thus, the reforms being encouraged by the EU are basically aimed at overhauling the socio-economic system, which will lead to increased social and economic differences in the country. That is why I abstained from voting on this report."@en1
