"The great tradition of European integration continues. Following the European Parliament’s vote in favour of Croatia’s accession, the EU is preparing to welcome its 28th member. By voting in favour, I wanted to show my support for the accession of a country whose history and culture, but also, and above all, its geography, make it European through and through. Not so long ago, the Balkans were entrenched in war. Since then, the countries of the former Yugoslavia have made rapid progress along the path of reform and integration. Of course, Croatia still has a long way to go before it meets EU standards, but with this vote, the European Parliament has just reaffirmed Zagreb’s EU aspirations."@en1
