"We believe that the decision on Croatia’s accession, or that of any other country, to the European Union must, first and foremost, come from the free expression of the sovereign will of this country’s people. Having said that, we should naturally neither ignore nor underestimate the meaning, nature and aims of this process of integration.
The report lists a range of obligations with which Croatia must comply. We are facing the unravelling of the arguments and the neoliberal blueprint upon which this EU keeps insisting. The rhetoric of sacrosanct free competition and ‘social market economy’, a euphemistic expression for the capitalist economy is, in fact, increasingly antisocial, as experience strongly bears out.
The EU cannot have a prosperous future if, as this report demonstrates, it regulates its every action in terms of enlargements and other structuring policies through multinationals’ access to markets and raw materials, imposing destructive policies on productive sectors and on employment. For all of these reasons, we abstained from voting."@en1
