"Twenty years after its declaration of independence, and roughly eight years since it submitted its application for membership to the EU, Croatia has successfully completed negotiations for EU membership. While the accession process has played a significant role in the transformation of Croatia into a solid democracy, Croatia’s accession will also make the EU stronger and will have broad implications at European and regional level, giving a positive boost to the process of European integration both in the EU and in the Western Balkans. This report, for which I voted, emphasises the need for Croatia to maintain momentum in its reforms, keeping up the same intensity and determination following the conclusion of negotiations and accession. It encourages Croatia to continue to carry out its reform of the judiciary, in line with the recommendations of the Commission. However, the Croatian authorities should continue to increase the administrative capacity of bodies that are fighting against corruption, particularly with regard to best practice in the EU."@en1
