"The conclusion of Croatia’s accession negotiations marks the end of a six-year process. According to the resolution, the European Parliament supports the signing of the Accession Treaty and I, too, have expressed the same opinion with my positive vote.
The conclusion of Croatia’s accession negotiations strengthens the credibility of the EU enlargement process, while the prospect of extending European integration facilitates peace in third countries and the establishment of good neighbourhood relations. In the Western Balkans region, there is still a great need for this today, especially during an economic crisis of this magnitude.
During the process of accession, it is extremely important for a country to be judged on the basis of its own achievements, and that Member States refrain from allowing bilateral disputes to influence the process.
I agree that Croatia still needs to fulfil its commitments made during the negotiations, for example, in respect of internal affairs, the reform of the judicial system, and fundamental rights. In the fight against corruption, it should strengthen the capacities of its administrative bodies."@en1
