"Since its independence, Croatia has shown its desire to build a solid relationship with the European Union. This is demonstrated by the reform of its administrative system and its ever greater efforts to combat corruption. Croatia must continue with these efforts, as its accession, scheduled for July 2013, is not the end of the process, but rather the start of a long and increasingly close relationship. A support mechanism will have to be maintained as part of a relationship of trust between the European Union and Croatia. This will ensure that the details of Croatia’s accession are favourable to each party. In the future, Zagreb will have to make further efforts to combat corruption and organised crime, among other things; it will have to tackle the issue of legal reforms, prosecute war criminals, encourage the return of refugees and ensure compliance with all of the recommendations of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY). As Mr Barroso so rightly said, enlargement is a question of credibility. I am convinced that Croatia will be a credible and trustworthy 28th Member State."@en1
