"I voted in favour of the report by Ms Honeyball because I believe that the principle of education and training provided to the people of Europe is essential in the context of strengthening the labour market and professional skills that will be available in tomorrow’s society. Tackling early school leaving (ESL) by focusing on high-quality educational programmes, an in-depth understanding of the problems that result in pupils leaving school and the creation of possible alternatives to repeating academic years is a priority if we want to build a Europe that will be increasingly capable of tackling a changing global situation. I am convinced that focusing on this problem shows the sensitivity of Parliament and European institutions towards a topic which, if underestimated, would undermine the future economic and cultural foundations of us all, and especially of our children."@en1
