"One of the five headline targets of the Europe 2020 strategy is to reduce the share of early school leavers to less than 10% and increase the share of the population aged 30-34 having completed tertiary or equivalent education to at least 40%.
According to 2009 data, the share of early school leavers in Hungary is 11.2 per cent, while that of people aged 30-34 who have completed tertiary or equivalent education is 23.9 per cent. In Hungary, too, there is a particularly high rate of early school leavers among poor and disadvantaged children.
In the case of Roma children, further measures are necessary to fulfil the educational objective of ensuring equal opportunities of success for everyone. I voted in favour of this report, which is a parliamentary follow-up to the political agreement that was reached during the six months of the Hungarian Presidency as regards reducing the number of early school leavers."@en1
