"I am delighted at the fact that Ms Hübner’s report was adopted almost unanimously. It will allow six Member States – Portugal, Greece, Ireland, Romania, Hungary and Latvia – to benefit from the increase in the cofinancing rates of the Structural and Cohesion Funds temporarily and exceptionally. In line with the spirit of solidarity that lies at the heart of the European Union, these six countries experiencing problems with liquidity linked to the crisis and, indeed, difficulties in implementing programmes financed by regional funds, will be able to receive further funding from the European Commission and see a temporary reduction in their contributions. This exceptional financial assistance will, I hope, provide a response to the urgency of the situation by injecting funds into the real economy and by reviving projects that will allow these countries to face the future with peace of mind. This is a wise decision which will have no effect on the overall funding of these countries for the period 2007-2013, as the payments made for 2012 will be absorbed at a later time."@en1
