"First of all, I would like to congratulate my colleague, Francesca Balzani, for all her efforts in achieving a more than commendable outcome for the European Parliament, under some extremely tough conditions. The European Parliament has managed to become the only institution in Europe which defends economic growth and wants to boost the economy, and the EU budget has become one of the only hopes for the European economy’s recovery. Right-wing governments in Europe are cutting national budgets, not to mention the EU budget, salaries and pensions, and then they are wondering why there is no economic recovery. Europe needs investment not budget cuts, and the budget deficits can be funded from the financial sector which continues to make profits, while also being the source of the crisis."@en1
