lpv:translated text	"Mr President, our energy dependence is a well-known fact. We import 60% of our gas and 83% of our oil. As for coal, our dependence amounts to 41%. Coal is the Union’s principal electricity-producing fuel, on a par with nuclear energy and gas. If we limit our mining capacity, we will simply have to import it from countries that do not have our social or environmental standards. In its energy strategy for 2050, the Commission should review the current framework of aid provision to coal mining. There is scope for improvement of the new legislation as regards the time limit for mine closure or the requirement to return the aid received in order to continue in operation. Our energy dependency is one more of our external weaknesses and, in the current crisis, we will pay the price for it sooner rather than later."@en1
