"I abstained in the vote on the joint resolution, firstly because the Confederal Group of the European United Left – Nordic Green Left was more or less excluded from negotiations on the final motion for a resolution, even though it, too, initially tabled a motion for a resolution. It is, however, clear from the final result that the GUE/NGL Group was absent from the negotiations, given that, unfortunately, the resolution does not propose a reduction in VAT, even though art and culture, in any form, are public goods which need to be accessible to all citizens. In essence, therefore, although the resolution maintains that the Member States could be allowed to apply reduced VAT rates on a temporary basis to online cultural services, it focuses on the need to develop and strengthen the common market and the common digital market."@en1
