".
I voted for the resolution on the EU-US Summit of 28 November 2011. Parliament is using this resolution to advocate that the EU must continue to raise in its dialogue with the US, both at a political and technical level, the importance it attaches to admitting the four EU Member States which are still excluded to the visa waiver programme as soon as possible. In light of the EU-US Summit, I think that topics such as the agreement on the protection of personal data, standardisation, space policy and IT security are of paramount importance to EU-US cooperation. In the area of IT security, I think that cooperation is vital between the EU and US on combating cybercrime, standardisation and mutual recognition of electronic signatures. I welcome the launch in March of this year of the negotiations on concluding an EU-US agreement on the protection of personal data. This agreement is necessary to ensure the smooth implementation of an EU-US agreement on Passenger Name Record data. Such an agreement will also have to take into account the process of adopting the proposal for a directive on Passenger Name Record data, which is currently being debated in Parliament, and to which all agreements of this kind that have been signed between the EU and third countries will subsequently have to be adapted."@en1
