"The International Criminal Court (ICC) continues to have the support of the European Union and its Member States. Its efforts have been focused primarily on advocating the universality of human rights and on ensuring that even the worst criminals are entitled to a fair and transparent trial. Despite the fact that several important members of the international community still fail to recognise the ICC because they have yet to ratify the Rome Statute, the role it has to play today is crucial in combating genocide and other crimes against humanity, and in asserting international criminal law."@en1
