"Mr President, the European Parliament can today show its leadership in promoting human rights and entrepreneurship both in Europe and worldwide. Net neutrality is about freedom of speech, freedom to access and share information and freedom of choice for consumers.
The internet governs our lives, whether we are talking about individuals, about companies or about institutions. We need a rich content of information and to facilitate access to information which could improve our lives and lead to concrete economic growth.
However, we also need to protect our citizens and institutions from misuses of the Internet, like cyber attacks, which could lead to dangerous effects on society. We have to keep the balance between protection and censorship, and at the same time to ensure that as much information as possible is accessible via the Internet, in order to develop our society."@en1
