In recent years, against the backdrop of the economic and financial crisis, Member States have reduced their aid budgets considerably due to the immense pressure exerted on their national budgets, thereby making it difficult to eradicate poverty. I think that donors from the EU need to improve their political dialogue with the emerging economies on development cooperation and try to increase the involvement of these states which have substantial resources. In addition, the aim of the European Union’s development policy must be to remove all the structural obstacles undermining its efforts to achieve its objective of reducing poverty. In this regard, I recommend adopting a coherent approach to development in all EU policies in the areas of agriculture, industry, raw materials or trade."@en1
