Item 73 refers to sustainable land management practices, including through forest conservation, sustainable forest management, forestation or sustainable agriculture. In this context, I welcome the recent proposals from the Commission on the common agricultural policy which share these concerns about environmental protection. There is no doubt that measures need to be taken, but we need to be cautious so as not to introduce ridiculous provisions into European legislation which are difficult to meet or too costly in relation to the benefits gained for society. We must guard against jeopardising European agriculture’s competitiveness and productivity."@en1
