The directive provides an opportunity to accelerate the process of creating the European railway area, improving the prospects of the rail transport sector in increasing its competitiveness in the transport market of the Member States. The directive strengthens the Community approach and method in the creation of policies and in supervising the adherence to common principles within the EU railway sector.
