"− I would like to congratulate Ms Matera on her excellent work, considering that this application for mobilisation of the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) is the nineteenth proposal submitted to the Budget Authority in 2011 alone. This time, the EU applicant country is Ireland, which calls for the EGF to be activated in three applications put to the vote this morning: the first for assistance in relation to 4 866 redundancies – 3 205 targeted for assistance – in enterprises operating in the ‘construction of buildings’ division; the second for 842 redundancies – 554 targeted for assistance – in enterprises operating in architectural and engineering activities; and the third for 3 382 redundancies – 2 228 targeted for assistance – in enterprises also operating in specialised construction activities. Among the various crises that have hit Europe’s economy over the last three years, one of the deepest and longest-lasting (as demonstrated once again today), and most difficult to overcome, is the crisis in the construction industry. The recession has affected, and is still affecting, the construction market."@en1
