"I welcome this decision to allocate support to Ireland’s construction sector because this sector has been hit particularly badly by the economic and financial crisis. In order to mitigate the negative impact of globalisation, the funding available from the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund needs to be used in a targeted manner. It is very important to ensure that assistance for workers made redundant should be dynamic and made available as quickly and efficiently as possible. I believe that the amount allocated is sufficient to mitigate the consequences of mass redundancy in the construction sector and will create favourable conditions for workers in this sector who have suffered to return to the labour market."@en1
