"Mr President, I was happy to support this report and I am delighted that it has been accepted today with a large majority. Without any doubt it has advantages, especially in fostering the Tourism Initiative and also in fostering interest and understanding amongst young people, especially in the history of Europe. I think this label first of all is different to the world heritage UNESCO label and is pretty distinctive; it is not based on beauty or architectural value, but on the history and the contribution of a particular site to creating the history of Europe and I think that is a good idea. I think no harm can come from it; the scheme which would be reviewed every two years is a good idea; thirteen people in the committee; a million euro maximum as a budget. I think that if it promotes tourism and promotes understanding, then it is all very well. I am sorry that my own country is not taking part because there are a number of sites which could contribute: the Irish College in Leuven, the Irish College in Paris, Kinsale Town, the Blasket Islands, etc."@en1
