"Madam President, Commissioner, Ms Paliadeli, ladies and gentlemen, I, too, welcome the second reading debate on the European Heritage Label, and I would like to thank the rapporteur for the quality job she has done. I only wish to point out one minor additional detail to those present, namely, that we should not forget that the time for the political agreement came during the Hungarian Presidency, at the Education, Youth, Culture and Sport Council meeting in May, and that this is where the decision-making process came to a conclusion. It was then that the deadlock was resolved and the compromise permitting us to be here today was reached between the three main bodies.
It was also then that this agreement on the remaining contested issues, such as the budget, the awarding of the label to certain sites and the competent institution as regards its withdrawal, could be reached. This is, of course, also especially important because here, too, quite a number of appropriate future sites were named. In light of the above, as a member of the Committee on Culture and Education, I welcome the fact that the vote on this report will take place tomorrow; I support it and ask everyone to reinforce the first proposal with their positive votes."@en1
