"Madam President, I would like to follow on from what Mr Scurria has said and to celebrate our common European heritage, because we do have a common European history despite what UKIP or the GUE or the ECR may think. We are part of the same continent and we do all share a history. That is what this label is seeking to celebrate.
I certainly welcome the European Heritage Label. I think it is an excellent initiative. I think it will be good because it will bring economic benefits. There is little doubt that it will increase tourism, and it will also be good because it will provide an educational focus for those who wish to take advantage of it.
I see the European Heritage Label as something to celebrate in these bleak economic times when things in Europe are not as good as they have been, something we can get on with and enjoy and see for the good of us all. It is about time that we viewed this in this spirit. It is a good initiative, a joyful initiative and something which we can all take part in. I would hope that those in other groups who do not see it like this will actually change their minds and go out and sell this concept to the rest of the European Union, to the rest of Europe, and indeed to the rest of the world."@en1
