"Most of the world’s people live in developing countries. These countries are often rich in natural resources and culture, but their wealth is shared unevenly. Women and children, in particular, are very vulnerable in developing countries.
The promotion of women’s equality is, above all, the promotion of human rights. Furthermore, men benefit from a society in which there is equality between women and men. In families in which the women are educated and earn an income, a larger share of the money is spent on the welfare of the children and of the entire family. The family of a woman who enjoys equality is also better educated and healthier. This accelerates a society’s economic growth.
The EU and the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP) must make much more of an effort to promote the inclusion of women, when matters to do with gender-based violence or human trafficking, for example, are being considered. The Commission and the Joint Parliamentary Assembly must include a lot more women than now in their work groups that deal with such issues as family life, child care and education."@en1
