"Mr President, ladies and gentlemen, without intending to offend anyone, I might as well continue by saying that I welcome everyone to the extended meeting of the Committee on Budgetary Control, seeing as how all the faces in this room, all those present, are the same. Of course, I do not wish to insult those fellow Members not working in the Committee on Budgetary Control or working in other Committees who are now honouring us with their presence. Ladies and gentlemen, Mr President, Commissioner, I fully agree with the key idea of Mr Fjellner. This year’s report indicates that the use of European Union funds is stable. It is stable, but it is unfortunately showing problems. In today’s debate, I would like to point out two important aspects of future stability.
In order for the EU’s financial management to show a stable and improving trend over the upcoming period, we need efficient, transparent, controllable and readily applicable common rules that provide a guarantee for the appropriate use of funds, and we also need stability as regards the use of potential funding, especially under the Cohesion Funds, ensuring that everyone can expect to receive similar amounts of funding in the upcoming budgetary period."@en1
