"It must be admitted that the recognition of professional qualifications in the European Union is far from being achieved. Many obstacles remain, as the 2005 directive did not settle all of the issues. It is therefore more than necessary to simplify and modernise the existing system. The Member States must cooperate more with one another, with recognition of professional qualifications being a matter of trust. It goes without saying that mobility must not be emphasised at the expense of quality. This is why we must continue the discussion of this famous European professional card, which we have been talking about since 2005, but which still provokes resistance. The pilot projects have shown that it can be a useful tool for improved recognition of qualifications. We therefore call on the Commission to continue along these lines by showing the added-value of such a card and by giving the necessary guarantees, especially as regards data protection."@en1
