"This report has come at a time when we are witnessing rising poverty in Europe. More than 116 million people are at risk of poverty in the European Union, and around 42 million people are living in situations of extreme deprivation. There is a need for social protection standards, and it is crucial to that the European Union and its Member States create a road map in this serious economic and social situation. However, if we really want to eradicate poverty, we have to put a stop to austerity policies and focus on job creation. That is why I abstained."@en1
