"I have just one thing to say: poverty and social exclusion have increased in recent years in Europe, despite the commitments made by the European Union to reduce them. As a result, in 2010, the number of people at risk of poverty was still around 116 million, which is more than 20% of European citizens. The – non-binding – resolution that was voted on at noon proposes that the Member States develop minimum income schemes based on at least 60% of the median income of each Member State of the European Union and calls once again on the European Commission to work towards introducing appropriate legislation. This is vital. In addition, paragraph 73 of the resolution, which I, of course, supported, also calls for a framework directive on the quality and accessibility of social services of general interest, in particular, in the areas of health, education, public transport, energy, water and communication."@en1
