"Demographic change is a fact in the European Union today: the population is becoming progressively older, on the one hand, and people from less developed areas are increasingly leaving for urban centres, on the other. Indeed, the EU has the lowest birth rate in the world, which is not only heightening the need to recruit labour originating in non-EU countries, but is also, in social terms, leading to very severe pressure on social security systems. Therefore, irrespective of the demographic policies in the strict sense that could be adopted, there is a need now to deal with the adoption of a structural policy enabling the Union’s new demographic structure to be tackled. I voted in favour because I agree with this idea."@en1
