"The free movement of an increasing number of highly qualified workers is one of the key benefits of European cooperation. I believe that all indirect obstacles to the public’s movement within Europe should be removed, without compromising rights and labour protection; a balance needs to be achieved between mobility and the quality of professional qualifications. The mobility of European workers has been particularly noticeable in the field of health care, and its immediate impact on public health means there is a need for clear and transparent rules, so as to guarantee mobility and safety. This directive is a step in that direction, so I voted in favour. Although it does not come under the scope of this directive, I believe the public’s freedom of movement within the Union should be increased, particularly by conferring equal rights on the citizens of all European Union countries."@en1
