"Madam President, I would like to point out that I voted for this report because poverty and social exclusion affect people’s quality of life. In Romania, as all over the world for that matter, mining settlements offer jobs. Towns like Roşia Montană have a mono-industry economy in mining. Reopening these mines offers a chance for local inhabitants to have a better living. Social welfare systems must offer security against the risks and provide effective support to those in trouble. In my country, the social welfare law adopted recently by the Senate promotes the principle of reintegrating the unemployed into the labour market. Social inclusion policies need to be supplemented by programmes combating multiple forms of discrimination. The National Agency for Equal Opportunities for Women and Men supports the principle of gender equality in all national policies."@en1
