"As far as the dairy sector is concerned, this proposal in the milk package will enable producers to negotiate the prices and quantities sold under contracts lasting a certain period of time, and will therefore provide some security in terms of the markets. However, the dairy sector will always be supported financially through direct subsidies under the common agricultural policy.
As regards dairy products from disadvantaged areas, the Member States can also provide coupled support to the dairy sector to maintain production in a given region. Globally, however, if we are talking about the dairy sector – as I said when I presented the milk package – I would be prepared to submit a report in 2014 to the Council and Parliament to analyse the situation in the sector before the elimination of quotas and, if necessary, we will present new proposals for the sector to ensure that it is well prepared prior to the end of the milk quota system."@en1
