"Maybe my question was translated wrongly. I did not say agriculture is the only source of eutrophicating substances in the Baltic Sea. I said it is the biggest one. It is a sad fact that agriculture in the Baltic Sea catchment area is by far the biggest source of phosphorous and nitrogen in the Baltic Sea. These cause eutrophication, which is the biggest environmental problem in the Baltic Sea. It is, of course, a fact that there are also other sources, but these other sources, like waste water from cities and industry, have been cleaned up a lot, and agriculture lags far behind these measures. So I repeat my question: will the Commission take it seriously that agriculture is the biggest source of eutrophicating substances in the Baltic Sea? Without new measures in agriculture, there is no hope of improving the very bad current ecological situation."@en1
