"Within the proposed European Social Fund regulation, the key minimum percentage concerns social inclusion: to devote at least 20% to projects related to social exclusion in direct support of the European platform against poverty and social exclusion and the Europe 2020 strategy.
I believe that, in a way, Europe 2020 and the MFF are very closely connected. In a way, their credibility also depends on each other. If we just speak about the need for more social exclusion projects and fighting poverty in Europe without really supporting it, and without really working very closely in an alliance with the Member States and other stakeholders to implement it, I believe we would have a credibility problem and a lack of efficiency.
Even so, we have a very difficult task ahead, and this is just the minimum of EU funds which we believe is absolutely necessary to devote to such causes. Every Member State has a to-do list in this area. There are obviously some with much greater levels of material deprivation, but there is an issue everywhere concerning social inclusion and more social cohesion. That is why I believe this is absolutely the right way to go."@en1
