"Homelessness and poverty are becoming serious problems today, and the global economic and financial crisis is making them even worse. The European Union faces a serious challenge, because responsibility for the fight against the many forms of social exclusion primarily rests with the Member States which, struggling with economic problems, introduce savings, and these often primarily affect the most vulnerable people. Therefore, all action taken by the European Commission and Parliament to support the Member States in combating poverty and social exclusion is important. Neither can we allow money from the European Social Fund to be used inefficiently. Millions of euro must not be spent on training which does not help the unemployed to return to work or gain the new qualifications they need. It is very important to create a European platform which will support the most vulnerable social groups, and also for the European Commission to provide adequate supervision of the effectiveness of the money which is spent."@en1
