".
Madam President, I would like to draw attention to the importance of education in the fight against poverty, and also to the key role of volunteering and active citizenship as instruments of cohesion and in the fight against economic, social and environmental differences, as they encourage citizens to connect with public life via sport, culture, the arts, and social and political activities
The Youth on the Move initiative, for example, is an important tool in the fight against poverty, helping to promote mobility for all pupils, interns and students, and to promote the recognition of professional skills acquired both formally and informally. Either way, this is an enormous challenge and an enormous problem for society, and it was exacerbated by the global crisis.
I would therefore like to call on Member States to create the most effective strategies possible to combat poverty and social exclusion, and to ensure high-quality education and vocational training that is accessible to all, and to carry out more concrete investments in national reform plans. Measures aimed at cultural and linguistic integration into the host country are particularly important for overcoming social exclusion. Despite overall cost-cutting in Europe, we must not forget solidarity or the target of a reduction in the number of people living in poverty of 20 million by 2020."@en1
