"− Public health is increasingly threatened by resistance to antimicrobial agents. This motion for a resolution calls on the Commission immediately to establish a legal framework that will require a responsible attitude to the use of these agents and contribute to greater public awareness through information initiatives. Furthermore, it demands a fully functional system of data input controls, so as to obtain reliable data in relation to the sensitivity to antimicrobial agents of pathogens that cause infection from which trend analyses can be obtained, allowing an early warning system to be established. After all, in recent years, there is evidence of a declining trend in research into new antimicrobial agents, despite the fact that the need to discover alternatives is particularly acute in the light of current developments."@en1
