"− I am extremely pleased with today’s vote which sets out the European Parliament’s position on the 2012 draft budget. In my capacity as shadow rapporteur for the Group of the European People’s Party (Christian Democrats), I should like to thank all my colleagues, particularly the rapporteurs, for the excellent work they have put in over recent months. I think that today we have shown a deep sense of responsibility by adopting a budget that is at once intelligent and realistic, that takes into due account this time of serious crisis, but that is, at the same time, conscious of its potential to boost growth in Europe and help it emerge from the crisis. It is a budget that finances research and innovation and supports young people and SMEs by focusing on certain selective, but important, increases in expenditure, including in other strategic sectors such as the neighbourhood policy and the management of migratory flows. In other words, we have adopted a European budget for European citizens."@en1
