"I supported Parliament’s position on the 2012 draft budget. The aim is to carry forward into negotiations with the Council a draft budget in line with the Commission’s initial proposal, based on our political priorities such as employment and growth. Today more than ever before, in the context of a continuing crisis, the European Union’s budget must be increased in order to kick-start the economy and provide protection to those in need of it. Furthermore, the increase in Parliament’s budget is strictly limited to any increase involved in covering the costs of 18 new Members, and EUR 25 million will be saved on transport and translation costs and by freezing Members’ salaries."@en1
