"Ladies and gentlemen, we are officially opening a new wi-fi Internet network in the European Parliament’s buildings today. This means you can use the Internet everywhere in Parliament’s buildings. You can use laptops, tablets and smartphones. The signal is available not only in the plenary chambers, the committee rooms and other rooms, but also in Parliament’s public areas. You can use wireless Internet practically wherever you are. This is a tremendous change in the way we manage our time in the European Parliament. We are very well aware of this. I would like to take the opportunity to thank and congratulate the staff of the Directorate-General for Innovation and Technological Support and its Vice-President, Rainer Wieland, who is sitting next to me and who was responsible for putting this important project into effect. Opening the wi-fi network is one of many innovations introduced this year. I would like to remind you that the Directorate-General for Innovation and Technological Support and Mr Wieland have also given us the European Parliament Directory, the electronic voting system used in plenary
Committee, the AT4AM system for legislative amendments, Europarl mobile and the Interparliamentary EU Information Exchange website. As you see, we have been given many improvements which make our work easier. So once again I would like to congratulate the Directorate-General, all staff and personnel of this division of the European Parliament and Mr Wieland."@en1
