"As a consequence of social trends, the number of single parents, not only single mothers, but also single fathers, has continually increased. Whereas in the southern Member States, it is assumed that, in this situation, the family network will help out, in the northern and Nordic countries, there are state measures such as financial support and support systems and in the Eastern European states, there is a combination of these approaches.
Understandably, women are feeling the effects of the economic crisis of the last few years particularly keenly. They are often affected by a high unemployment rate. As a result, single mothers, in particular, all too easily fall into a cycle of poverty, which is then passed on to their children. Single parents have a difficult situation to deal with, but it is not only mothers that can end up in a precarious situation as a result. For that reason, I abstained."@en1
