"Every society is obliged to support single mothers and to provide them with a financial and social foundation. In the EU, 85% of single parents are women. In Austria, the figure is as high as 90%. Particularly at a time of economic crisis, it is necessary to give single mothers additional support, as they experience a three-fold pressure: bringing up their children alone, gender-specific discrimination on the labour market and the pay gap allow women and their children to quickly slip into a cycle of poverty without any prospects of escaping it. For that reason, I gave the report by Ms Matera my support."@en1
