"I voted for the report on promoting workers’ mobility within the European Union. The mobility of our citizens enables day-to-day exchange and construction of Europe. Workers’ mobility is particularly key as it balances out supply and demand in the labour markets by filling in any gaps in the workforce. It therefore helps enhance market efficiency. There are still many barriers on the path to mobility. We need to knock them down. The report calls for a lifting of restrictions that prevent some European citizens from working in another Member State. Another pillar of the report is the call for greater recognition of diplomas so that everyone can put their training to good avail wherever they are in Europe. To facilitate mobility, social security systems and pension schemes need to be coordinated so that workers’ rights are easily transferable. The principle of non-discrimination is also clearly upheld. Lastly, information about the various opportunities for mobility that exist and related rights must be made more accessible."@en1
