"Mr President, there are still many obstacles hindering the full social inclusion of the 80 million people with disabilities. I hope that the Member States and the Commission will heed the call to prepare legislative acts that facilitate their inclusion.
The Member States have not yet signed the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Despite this time of economic crisis, I hope that the national governments will prove capable of protecting them by putting in place policies in line with the European Disability Strategy 2010-2020.
I welcome and endorse the report tabled by Mr Kósa, who, by drawing on his own experience, has managed to give heartfelt, practical suggestions in order to offer people with disabilities non-discriminatory access to social protection and to health and education services."@en1
