lpv:translated text	"Madam President, I shall begin with a Spanish saying which is less Caesarean but closer, I think, to what citizens are demanding from us in these days of anxiety for Europe: ‘the best is the enemy of the good’. That is, they are asking us to cooperate, to make an effort, rather than trying to gain advantage or fame. I sincerely believe that the road we have chosen is the wrong one, and I also think that the two amendments put forward by Mr Rivellini are very revealing in this respect, as they backtrack on the first proposals, which I believe are, let us say, too risky. We in the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament have debated this thoroughly, and we continue to demand transparency and clarity in all accounts, as we have always done and as we continue to do, but we regret that the road that has been decided on involves abandoning the majority of our institutions. I believe that a high-level group from both institutions, like the one suggested by my colleague, Mr Geier, was the mature way to go, if you, Ms Gräßle, dislike bureaucrats – I think they are doing their job. Moreover, certainly, giving the Court of Justice the final say is a poor solution. I believe that, given the mature nature of both institutions, they should show a little more strength, a little more discipline."@en1
