lpv:translated text	"Madam President, ladies and gentlemen, I, too, would like to congratulate the rapporteur, Ms Alfano, on this important report. It has become an essential reference for Parliament’s actions in an area in which it has new, enhanced competence based on the Treaty of Lisbon. It is a fundamental reference because of its subject matter – the fight against organised crime and mafias in the European Union – and because it calls for a special committee, the establishment of a European Public Prosecutor’s Office and the harmonisation of the Member States’ legislation. I also appreciate the fact that some of the proposals I made as rapporteur for the opinion of the Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality have been accepted, for instance, the proposal to promote the role of associations of victims’ families and the establishment of a European forum, as well as the call for a holistic approach to people trafficking, especially child trafficking, and to illegal adoptions, not least in light of the recent European directive. I would like, however, to place a little more emphasis on the extent to which the text succeeds in showing that women and children make up the majority of direct or indirect victims, especially of crimes against the person, and that there must therefore be a specific, targeted commitment to support and protect women victims of crime and violence, including when they are witnesses or have dissociated themselves, especially from mafia and criminal families, and also to value their role when they commit themselves to a culture of legality. I would also like to mention the growing number of women involved in combating crime as judges, lawyers and police officers, and also as teachers trying to change the culture of our young people in this respect."@en1
