"I believe that the free movement of people, and the creation of the Schengen area in particular, are among the greatest triumphs of the process of European integration. As regards the accession of Romania and Bulgaria, and despite the postponement following the Council’s failure to vote on 22 September, I would like to stress that the suitability of both countries to join the Schengen area was certified by Parliament and the Commission back in June. I therefore believe that the accession of these countries should occur as quickly as possible, as outlined in the resolution that has now been adopted."@en1
