The Council should, above all, focus on benchmarking economic policies, strengthening Europe’s global competitiveness, establishing the EU’s position for the G20 summit and establishing the EU’s final position on the climate change conference. I agree with the proposals put forward in the resolution that the President of the Commission should table a comprehensive plan to include elements such as the recapitalisation of European banks, the communitisation of the European Financial Stability Facility (EFSF) and the European Stability Mechanism (ESM) and an assessment of available and envisaged means, a meaningful European growth, investment and jobs plan, and proposals to complete the overhaul of financial market regulation and to improve economic governance in the EU should a crisis occur in the future."@en1
